A Tribute to Stan Grace

"Stan will be forever sailing...."

Some 40 members of the club came from near and far to attend Stan's funeral on 7th March 2014.

During the service, the Humanist Celebrant made many mentions of his passion for sailing. He also read out "Stan the Man", the club's own tribute, which began: 'Stan was, and always will be, affectionately known as Stan the Man to everyone in Welwyn Garden City Sailing Club. He joined in 1986 at the age of 31 and had been a Welly for 28 years at the time of his untimely death from acute myeloid leukaemia on February 14th 2014.

Stan turned up at the lake whatever the weather. He was one of our stalwarts. The dictionary defines this as; strong and sturdy, robust. Solid, dependable, and courageous. A supporter. That describes him perfectly. He was also a joker with a great sense of humour, and was well liked by everyone, off and (more importantly) on the water. The ladies loved his dimples!' ...

Stan is already greatly missed by all of us. We're grateful that he's left us with many, many happy memories.

* Wellys might like to know that a total of £1,222.02 has so far been given towards Stan's favourite charities: Water Aid (£132.96), Gade Ward (£132.38) and the RNLI (£956.68).
