Junior sailors are an important part of Welwyn Garden City Sailing Club. They bring energy, curiosity and enthusiasm to Stanborough Lakes, and it’s a pleasure to watch their confidence grow on the water.

For a young sailor, the club is a place to practise new skills, make friends and discover the excitement of racing. Experienced members offer encouragement and share what they know, helping juniors feel part of the club from the start. Sailing also teaches them to make decisions, work with a crew and keep going when the wind has other ideas!

At our major events, there’s always a junior trophy to race for, with the season’s ultimate goal of becoming Junior Sailor of the Year.

These trophies celebrate effort, progress and enthusiasm as well as results.

For some, that early connection with sailing has shaped what came next. Many former junior members have gone on to work in the sailing industry. Others, inspired by time on the water and close to nature, have pursued studies and aquatic careers around the world.

Every junior sailor brings something special to the club. We’re proud to support them as they learn, race and discover where their love of the water might take them.
