Welwyn Garden City Sailing Club has been part of the local community since 1973, with generations of sailors enjoying dinghy sailing and racing at Stanborough Lakes.

From the beginning, the club has been about much more than simply getting boats onto the water. Friendly competition, learning, volunteering and friendship have all played an important part in creating the club we know today.

Over the decades, WGCSC has developed a strong racing tradition, with numerous trophies, pursuit races and annual competitions. Junior sailing has also been an important part of our story, helping younger sailors develop skills, confidence and a lifelong love of the sport.

The club archives tell the stories of the people behind WGCSC — from beginners taking their first steps into sailing to members who have gone on to offshore adventures and major sailing events.

More than 50 years after the club was founded, our surroundings, boats and members continue to evolve, but the spirit remains remarkably similar.

Today we continue that tradition by welcoming new sailors, experienced racers and people returning to sailing after many years away.

WGCSC remains what it has always been: a friendly community brought together by a shared love of sailing.
