DEATH OF PIOTR CABAN

It is with shock and great sadness I have to let you know that our Polish friend and fellow sailor Piotr Caban  passed away in Addenbrooke's Hospital on Thursday, February 2 after being found with serious head injuries in Tewin Road, WGC, at the junction of Mundells, at around 7.50pm the previous evening.  It is believed he was involved in a collision with a vehicle that failed to stop at the scene.  Police have appealed for witnesses.

Piotr joined the club last August after coming along to the summer evening sailing sessions.  He began by crewing for Tony Hale in his Leader.

His wife Sylwia, whom many of you met at the annual dinner last year, is about to have their baby.  She is in Gdansk and unable to travel because of the imminent birth.  The deepest sympathy of the whole club goes to her,  their 22-year-old daughter Ewa, and wider family   Piotr was a charming gentleman and we shall miss him.

Update: As of 9 February, a 20 year old youth has been arrested in connection with Peter's death.
