Welcome to our club

Breezy Stanborough

The philosophy behind our friendly club is to welcome and encourage you into dinghy racing. Competitive sailing offers an enjoyable, exciting challenge, no matter what the size of the water or wind conditions.

To this end, we welcome all sorts of sailors (juniors, adults and families), with all types of sailing dinghies, to come and race with us on Saturday mornings at Stanborough Park in Welwyn Garden City. The park is owned by Welwyn Hatfield Council and managed by Finesse Leisure Partnership in partnership with Welwyn Hatfield Council.

If you have a sailing dinghy: great! As long as it’s under 16 foot you’re welcome to bring and launch it (unfortunately due to the size of the lake, Stanborough Lakes Management do not permit any bigger boats).

If you don't have a boat, or prefer not to bring yours, a small number of Topper, Topaz, Laser Pico, RS Feva and Leader dinghies are available for hire, and can be used for racing. Additionally, our double-hander sailors are often on the lookout for crew, giving you a chance to partner up.

Racing at StanboroughObviously you do need to know how to sail in order to come racing, and we look for sailors with RYA level 2 or equivalent practical experience. The adjacent RYA recognised sailing school (search the page for "Stanborough" if following this link)  teaches the basic skills of dinghy sailing, windsurfing, and power boat handling and students who have completed RYA Level1/2 are encouraged to join WGCSC to gain racing experience.

You can come along as a non-member and race with us, we'll make you very welcome, and if you like it we'd love you to join...
