EASTER REGATTA 4th April 2015

Alan wins Easter Regatta
in challenging conditions
There was a gusty north-easterly wind blowing across Stanborough Lake on Easter Regatta Saturday and it presented very challenging conditions for all the Welly sailors who took part.  It was also bitterly cold, and the two juniors who were brave enough to set out  - Milly and Samuel McAlister - had to retire half way through the first race before they froze solid, but very well done to them for giving it a go!
A total of nine boats competed for the Easter Egg silverware.  Fast fleet - Alan Campbell (Supernova), Charles Adams (a welcome sight back in his Enterprise), Roger Morse (sailing his Leader single handed), and Dave Campbell (Laser).  Slow fleet - Pete Thornley (Streaker), and Sheila Stowe, Phil Walter, Nigel Davis, and Milly & Samuel (Comets).
After an exhausting morning, and complicated computations done by Race Officer, Ray Wilson and his able Assistant, Ian Stringer, the winner of the slow fleet was declared as Sheila Stowe, and the winner of the fast fleet was Alan Campbell, and each was awarded a large chocolate Easter Egg.  Runners up were Pete Thornley and Roger Morse, respectively.
The overall winner of the Easter Regatta, by a margin of seconds, was ... drum roll ... Alan Campbell and he was presented with the Easter Egg Cup, originally given to the club by the Fishwick Family.  Sheila took the 2nd place cup.
Afterwards, sailors and Mouse Club members enjoyed some Cadburys creme eggs before heading home to get warmed up.
Special thanks to the long suffering rescue team of Tony Lyall and David Boyce.
