COMING BACK TO SAILING?

Excellent. Many of our members have taken a break for various reasons, and come back to sailing and racing with renewed enthusiasm.

Stanborough Lake can offer the opportunity to potter about, or race with the club on Saturday mornings.

If you just want to potter, the lake is open to the public some of the day time, and is run by Finesse Leisure Partnership. You can hire boats from them or launch your own for a launch fee. If hiring a boat, you will have to convince Finesse that you are competent. A qualification will be helpful here, but you may be asked to undertake an on-the-water assessment.

Alternatively, Welwyn Garden City Sailing Club has leisure sailing sessions on Tuesday and Friday mornings, and a 'sail better' session on Wednesday evenings, and members can sail during all of these. Currently it's only £15 for Family membership.

The Club has use of the lake on Saturday mornings for racing, and you will be very welcome to join in. We hold 2 races, and have usually between 10 and 20 boats. You can use your own dinghy, or hire one from Finesse. We are a friendly bunch of all abilities, all ages, and male and female, so however good you are you’ll fit in.

We use the RYA Portsmouth Yardstick handicap system so most single hull dinghies can race here so long as they are under 16ft (4.87m) long. Catamarans are not allowed.
